Biocultural Restoration for a Moving World: Indigenous and Locally ‑ Led Approaches to Healthy Recipient Ecosystems

Moderator: Tero Mustonen, Snowchange

This two‑hour presentation and workshop—hosted by Snowchange with support from the Centre for Marine Socioecology, UTAS —explores how Indigenous and local communities are restoring and caring for terrestrial and marine ecosystems so they remain healthy, functioning, and capable of receiving species on the move. The first hour focuses on biocultural restoration practices led by Snowchange, highlighting community‑driven work across diverse landscapes and seascapes. The second hour opens a broader dialogue on Indigenous and local community perspectives on restoration and realignment of ecosystems, including pathways for respectfully sharing, exchanging, and passing on biocultural knowledge as shifting species connect one community to another.
